I have a passion for deceptively easy knits.

Although this infinity scarf might seem a little lacy, large, and complicated, it was designed with hectic Fall schedules in mind. Simple slipped stitches, garter stitch, and a quality colorful yarn make this a relaxing knitting experience, with beautiful results. The yarn I chose features a gorgeous array of earthy colors which will match almost any outfit, and yet won’t make you feel like you’re wearing a gigantic looped rainbow. If Christmas always seems to surprise you like it does me, you won’t regret whipping a few of these up in different colors; I finished mine in just about 3 hours, and have been wearing it since. Enjoy!

Many thanks to the beautiful Johanna Cohen for modeling!

Cozy Colors Slip-stitch Scarf

Materials;

  • 2 skeins Lion Brand “Amazing” yarn, or any colorful worsted weight yarn, (preferably wool or natural animal fiber)
  • Size 11 straight needles (or long circular needles, which I used as if they were straight needles.)
  • Tapestry needle

Pattern

  1. Cast on 150 stitches.
  2. Knit 4 rows (*or 3 rows if you are a loose knitter, see note below).
  3. Next row; *K1, yo, repeat from * around.
  4. Next row; *K1, drop yo (Do not knit the yo! Simply slide it off the needles, which created the lacy effect), repeat from * around.
  5. Repeat steps 2-4, 5 times more.
  6. Knit 4 rows (*or three rows if you are a loose knitter, see note below). Bind off LOOSELY leaving a 20-inch tail. (It is very important to bind scarves off loosely, especially when they are knit lengthwise, for a natural stretch of the fabric.)
  7. Align two short ends together and sew together using the 20-inch tail, joining the scarf in a loop.

*If you are a loose knitter, it might be best to knit only 3 rows the first time and last time only, so that you have enough yarn to complete the scarf with 2 skeins. I was able to complete it with two, but it was a close finish. This way, the scarf will be symmetrical, and you won’t notice the missing rows on either end of the scarf because these rows serve merely as edges. Every other time you repeat these steps, however, knit 4 rows. Please comment if you’d like clarification!

Enjoy!
